AI policy
AI is used only for checking and internal suggestions. Marking and feedback are always provided by qualified IB teachers and examiners.
In short
Human markers write your feedback and grades. AI may suggest improvements to our internal review process, but nothing from AI is sent to students without a teacher's judgment and approval.
Our commitment
MarkSmith is built on human expertise. Every comment, rubric criterion assessment, and grade you receive is written and approved by a qualified IB teacher or examiner — not generated by artificial intelligence.
We believe students deserve authentic, examiner-informed feedback. AI may assist our internal workflow, but it never speaks for us on your document.
What AI is used for
After a marker completes their review, we may use AI tools to cross-check the assessment against the IB rubric and highlight areas where a second human review could be helpful.
AI may suggest whether a grade band looks consistent with the written feedback, or flag criteria that might benefit from additional marker attention.
These outputs are internal suggestions only. They are reviewed by our marking team and are never pasted into your Google Doc or shown to you as feedback.
What AI is never used for
AI is not used to mark your Internal Assessment, Individual Oral, or Extended Essay.
AI is not used to write comments, strengths, weaknesses, or suggested actions on your work.
AI is not used to assign grades or estimated marks that students receive.
No student-facing feedback is copied, paraphrased, or directly taken from AI-generated text.
Who marks your work
All marking and feedback is carried out by qualified IB teachers and examiners who understand subject-specific rubrics and what the IB expects at HL and SL.
Markers follow the official assessment criteria for your subject. They leave comments directly on your Google Doc so you can see exactly what to improve.
When AI raises an internal suggestion, the marker decides whether it is relevant. The final feedback always reflects human professional judgment.
Why we use AI at all
AI helps us maintain consistency and catch potential oversights — similar to how a senior examiner might review a colleague's marking. It supports quality assurance; it does not replace the marker.
This approach lets us offer affordable pricing while keeping every submission reviewed by a real IB educator.
Questions
If you have questions about how your work is marked or our use of AI, contact us through the email address on your order confirmation.
We will continue to update this policy as our tools and processes evolve. The principle will not change: human markers deliver your feedback; AI only assists behind the scenes.
